Churchill (Secretary of for War) stated that Arabs on July 2 attacked the Government buildings at Rumaila, on tho Euphrates, killed the Arab guard ,iihl cut tho railway. Reinforcements sent from Basra Buffered casualties owing r© the cutting of the canal and being unuble to reach the town. Further remioi cements were sent from Bagdad. Punitive measures were being taken by tho troops and an air force. The rising appeared to be of a local character, probably duo to religiouß agitation. The immediate cause was the arrest by the civil authorities of local sheikhs who had been inciting the tribesmen to rebel. The garrison at Rumaila was still holding out, awaiting assistance from Bagdad.—Beuter.
