SEAMAN DROWNED
* HEROIC ATTEMPT AT RESCUE FAILS. By Tclcgraph-Pross AnßOdstton. Auckland, July 12, Goorgo Duminel, a seamen on tho steamer Rarnnga fell into tho harbour on Saturday night, and was drowned, despite a bravo attempt at roscuo by James Hurley, a fireman on the samp steamer. Hurley dived after Duminel. Ho found him under water and tried to pull him ashore. A bystander threw a lifebnov, and in trying to catch it Hurley, through numbed fingers, lost his grip of Duminel, who sank. Hurley dived again, bui was unsuccessful, aiid then swam ashore exhausted.
