OBITUARY
ME, G. B. BULLOCK. Tho nows of the death yesterday of Mr. G. B. Bullock, Dominion Superin- < tenclent of the New Zealand Shipping ] Company, came us a shock to a greaj, . many people in Wellington and else- ' where. He collapsed at his home in Wadestown after motoring up (ho hill a < few evenings ago, and though it was known that ho had hurst a small Wood vessel on the brain, it was not thought i Hint tho result would he fatal, as at ! one time he give signs of at least a : partial recovery. The late Mr. Bullock. : who was 57 years of age, was twice I married, and leaves a eon by his first wife and a daughter by his second wife, who survives him. lie had been connected with the affairs of the New Zealand Shipping Company from his youth. Ho joined the company as a clerk at Christchui'ch in ISS2, and in 1837 was appointed local agent at Timavu. Ho Ifft there in 1896 to become manager at Napier, and three years later was appointed manager for tho rompaiiy at Duncdin. In 1914 he assumed the position of manager at Wellington, anil, on the retirement of Mr. A. D. Bennett some ten months ago, ho was appointed Dominion Superintendent for the cimpany. Though he never look any active part in local affairs, the late Sir. Bullack was possessed of great organising ability, and a marked knowledge of shipping affairs. He was held in the highest esteem, and those who knew him best regard his death as a great loss. He did valuable service during the war period on the Overseas Shipping Committee, in which capacity his thorough knowledge of shipping proved of extreme ■ vatuo; lie was n prominent member of the National Disputes Committee, set np to deal with Labour questions; and ope of his last official acts was to be chairman of tho conference between Hie Government and the railway employees, which only concluded some threp week* a»o Tho shipping offices and ships in port flew their flags nt half-mast yesterday as a tribute of respect to his memory.
