He visited the lJetitrrieaTveJuiers' Club, and was entertained at luucheou by the borough Council. Mr. J. W. Hondersou has been appointed one of the- trustees of tho Wellington Cathedral Building Fund, to lill tho vacancy caused by tho death ok' t.ho lato Mr. W. J. Birch. A high compliment has just been paid to Mr. W. A. Bowring, Wellington's accomplished portrait; painter. Prior to his departure, Lord Liverpool commissioned him to paint his portrait, which represents a fine piece of '<*rlf. It shows His Excellency in the unMorra of colonel of the Rille Brigade. The picture has been taken to England. M/. Bowring has also just completed a portrait of Mr. Gavin Hamilton, who was private secretary to His Excellency. This also has gone Home. Unfortunately, there was not tiniQ for tho publio to see these two paintings. Tho annual report of tho Wellington Rowing Club mentions tho loss sustained in tho death of Messrs. A. C. Barry and J. Ilonre, two members who took a prominent part in the activities of the club. At the annual meeting of tho Institute of JournalisU yesterday the. 10Ilowing officers were elected—President, Mr. W. J. Guerinj vice-presidents, Messrs. C. Mario, P. .T. Earle, and - Penn; committee, Messrs. A. N. Field, It. H. Hooper, P. H. Morgan, H. Hardcastle. C. E. Whoclor, and G. Osborne; delegates to council, Messrs. P. J. Lnrlo and A. N. Field; lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. R. Smith; auditor, Mr. H. T. B. Drew. Mr. P. Galvin was olected n life-member of the institute.
