FAREWELL DINNER

-*- r - The approaching retirement of Mr; W. Quin from the management of tie Champion Confectionery _ Company, Limited, provided the occasion for a valedictory gathering rcoently, when the director's asked th» staff and employees to meet Mr. and Mrs. Qnin at a dinner in the Stafford Tea Rooms. Tho guests numbered over 'SO. The following toasti wore honoured: "The Principals, Mr; and Mrs. Quin," which Mr. P. A. Rive, tho company's traveller, introduced in a -felicitous speech. Mr. T: Quin, jun., responded on behalf of his parents. "Tho Ladies" was proposed by Mr. Haysum. Mr. Quin proposed "The Company" and gave a resume of the history of the concern. He stated that tho Champion Company resulted from the amalgamation of the Welington Biscuit Company and the Diamoud Confectionery Company in 1909. Mr. Quin became tho managing director in 1912. Tho output was soon doubled and the produot of the new concorn established a high reputation. The reason for Mr. Quiiib retirement was, he stated, that the strenuous labour involved in running a large establishment had proved very exacting; and, having prospered during his association with the company, ho felt that he had earned a rest after tho anxious period consequent on the war. He introduced-his successor, Mr. L. Heard, who is at present managing a ■substantial concern in Auckland; At the close of the dinner a handsome illuminated address from tho staff of tho company was presented to Mr. Quin and Miss Gamble (forewoman) handed a Doulton tea set to Mrs. Quin. Mr. Quin has been a resident of Wollington since 1801 and was for many years the accountant for Messrs. M'tfeo and Co. Ho is woll known to a very largo number of business people in and around Wellington.
