COTTON GROWING
BRITISH GOVERNMENT'S POLICY. •-, London,, July. 7. Sir Robert Horhe, President, of the Board of Trade, has written to' Sir. Henry Birchenough, 'chairman of the Em-' pire Cotton Grooving Committee, outlining the Government's policy.. He says that if the ..committee's proposals arefulfilled they will greatly benefit, not only the British cotton industry, but the development of all the actual and potential cotton growing portions of the Empire. In the event of the cotton trade undertaking the proposed levy upon itself of sixpence per bale, estimated to produce ,£IOO,OOO per annum, the Government will vote ,£50,000 per annum' for five years, to enable the committee's, projects to be carried out.
