CITY COUNCIL
WORKB INCLUDED IN THE ESTIMATES. The City Council met last evening. ■ The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) presided. The Outlying Districts Committee made recommendations for the inclusion of certain works in this years estimates. Tho recommendations were in tho following terms i— "Roscneath and Hataitai.—We eon. eider that it would be a wise procedure if Grafton Road was commenced and a certain sum of money placed on the estimates each year for oarrying out this work accordingly, as has been done in other parts of the city. "Lyall Bay.—Wo recommond that a storm-water drain be installed to obviate tho sand-wash which took place so recently. "Onslow—Tho committee strongly recommend that the Main Road at tho Collwav bo widened. Jessie Street oulvcrt. "Northland—We ask that improvements on tho main roads bo gone on with in the Northland district, and the. track to Sydenham Terrace be formed. W«i also consider that it would be a wise procedure to form a cart traok from Spittal's land to allow this ground to bo opened up. "Wadestown.-The improvement of tho Main Road and completion of Wade Street West. ■ "Vogeltown.—That the sum of .£IOOO be included towards the completion of the present road. "Island Bav.—That storm-water at Clyde Street bo attended to, and tho diversion made; also that tho delayed improvements be carried on. Foreshore I road formation. , "Kilbirnio.—Extension of water-dram sohth of Gon Stroot "Melrose—The completion of_ Antico and (Jarepa Strcota, and also improvement of Duncan Tcrraco and Rodrigo Road."
'l'he council approved tlie list. The following recommondation of tho By-Laws Committee was adopted: "That tho request of tho recent deputation to the council that the proposed by-law prohibiting pillion Tiding on motor-cycles be not brought into operation, bo riot. Acceded to," Tho Milk Committee mado the followin/ recommondation"That near-by farmers lie required to forward composite samples of tho milk prodnced by them to tiio milk station once in every seven days, and that the condition in tho'license requiring them to submit samples dnilv be not enforced." Tho commit'ce reiiorted that pending the decision of the Board as to price to bo paid, it had arranged with the Fcatherston Dairy Company for their supplies of milk to bo forwarded to tho city. The report was adopted.
