Mr. Robert Smillio announced that the miner? refused the new Mines Bill, and there would probably be a eerious n crisis on the new wages deWand. The executive recommended the *° demand a reduction in the price of domestic coal by lis. 2d. per ton, the amount of the recent increase, which WW unjustified; and also to demand 2s per day as a flat rate advance in the wages of all workers ovor sixteen, and of Is. per day for workers under skteon. ihis would involve an additional thirty millions sterling per annum. Mr. Smillio threatened further wages demands which would absorb the whole of tho available surplus unless the price of coal ™ "duced.
