PROHIBITIVE RATES ASKED IN. BRITAIN. Melbourne, July 8. Sir Joseph Coolc announced that subscribers to tho new Federal loan of .£25,000,000 will have the privile«> of converting at faoei vahio an equal amount of stock held in previous loans. Inquiries made in London ns to whether tho loan could bo floated there showed that, owing to the very large amounts invested in industrial and commercial ventures, lenders are asking rates of interest which make it Draoticallv prohibitive that the Commonwealth should borrow in Britain. —Press Assn.
