NAPIER-GTSBORNE CARGO SERVICE
1— In replying to letters from tho Wellington Chamber of Commerce respecting the cargo service between Napier and Gisborne, Messrs. Richardson and , Co. have written as follows i—"IVo quite realise that, at the present time,' the Ripplo is unable to cope with t'h» cargo offering for Napier and Gisborne, and it was this "fact' that wo had in mind when purchasing the Putiki, as we realised we would require a boat of her typo to help' out the Ripple with the freighting. When the Putiki has completed nor overhaul, which should be towards the ond of July, we anticipate no difficulty from then on in keeping the Napier-Gisborne oargo cleared. Your suggestion, that if there were insufficient cargo to run the Putiki in a weekly service, we should wran»e for a fortnightly service, is a good one, and 'immediately' our present accumulation of cargo is cleared we shall endeavour to put this into effect." Respecting tne above service, the council of tho chamber thought that tho shipping companies should adopt tho practice of receiving only such cargo as was represented by boat notes stamped at tho office. Tho Importers' Committee will arrange a special meeting to which shipping clerks from the principal firms, the Harbour Board and the snipping companies will be invited, and that meeting will dlsouss the methods of receiving cargo for coastal ports at Wellington.
