'Mr. Bartholomew, S.M., gave judgment tn-day in the case in which tho Inspector of Awards brought an action against the Dunedin branch of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers claiming iIOO penalty for a. broach, of the.Conciliation and Arbitration Act. It wns alleged that the defendant society during the currency of the award took proceedings with intent to defeat the provisions of the award, in that it attempted to prevent piecework at Reid and Gray's works. Tho Magistrate hold the defendant union did take the proceedings with tho intention of defeating clause 19 of the award, and gave judgment for tho penalty of .£2O.
