Is expected from Newcastle about Friday next A feature of the coastal shipping at tho present timo (saya the "Press") is the large amount of carsro offering at Lyttelton for Wellington, and, to a lesser extent, the amount comins from Wellington to Lyttelton. In addition to the ferry steamers, tho Union Oompany has tho two East Coast steamers running, also the Corinna and To Anau makin? periodical trips, and quite frequently a "K" boat is pressed into the service. The Canterbury Steamship Oompany has the Karu running- "continuously between the two porta, its other three vessels also makln? freouent 'trips; Smaller boats which run rceularly are the Wootton, Baden Powell, and Wrltatu; the schooner Lily is also running between Ule two ports, and the John makoß freauent trips. So muoh careo had accumulated during laat week that the ' Blackball steamer N?akuta was brought down empty from WelllnEton to load for that port. The northward cargoes consist largely of producer-potatoes, 'flour, wheat, chaff, oats, onions—although a fair amount of merchandise is also forwarded. The cargooß from Wellington consist mainly of j transhipments, from oversea, vessels.
