THE EARLY SETTLERS' ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Wellington Early Setters' and Historical Association was held on Wednesday. Mr. J. E. Jonkinson, tie president, "presided. The annual report stated that since the close of the war the association has Bhown progress. Tho membership has increased, the finances arc Bound, and the socials and meetings "held have been well attended. The report expressed the hope that picnics will be organised in the early, summer, making Greytown, Maßterton, and Otalii the rendezvous, ; The chairman mentioned the lack of interest iii the association, and the need of the society having. its own premises. He referred to the association in .Dunedin, where they had their own premises, and as a result Bomewllere between 500 and 600 members attended a meeting.' He hoped that within the next' year or 60 the would purchase a hall or some otner premises. ; Of course, the matter would be a coßtly. one. but by.letting the hall for public meetings, etc., the matter from a, financial --point of view should be sound. He urged the members to endeavour to introduce the young, people into tho association. If they were to prosper it was necessary that now blood should be introduced. Mr. Jenkinson referred to tho compiling of •historical matter. This part of the association's work was mora important than tho social side of their work.
