Sir James Allen, speaking at a Victoria League meeting at the Gui'dhatl, warmly repudiated the suggestion that New Zealand does not welcome. British .wives of Ivew Zealand soldier?. He hoped that Britain woultf send an equal number of men to marry New Zealand 'women. He reminded Imperial statesmen that the relations of the Dominions with the Motherland had material"? changed since the war. New Zealand was now grown up. Her signature to tha Peace Treaty and membership of tho League of Nations amounted to a recognition of New, Zealand as a separate entity. There were' in the future possibilities of separation and independence, although probably less in New Zealand than elsewhere, but Sir Jf.mes Allen.urged tf.oeer co-operation to maintain and strengthen the unity of the Empire. > Lord Forcter (recently appointed Gov-ernor-General of Australia) eulogised the Victoria League's wort in Australia and tho other Dominions,—Aug.-N.Z.
