■ Captain H. C. Garland, who has been A.D.C. to Hie Excellency the Governor. General 6ince December, 1917, has been appointed A.D.C. to Sir Cecil Rodwell, Governor of Fiji, and will leave for Suva on July 20. Captain Garland, who has made many friends in .Wellington, went to the front as an officor of the Socond Canterbury li«giment, and was afterwards two years on tho staff of General W. Braithwaite, of whom many New Zealand officers and. mon have affectionate recollections. Whilst in Prance Captain Garland had the ill-luck to suffer a severe attack of pleurisy, and ivas invalided back to New. Zealand, when Lord Liverpool offered him a position on his staff. Before tho House of Representatives yesterday, the Prime Minister (Right Hon. W. F. Massey) and tho Leader of the Opposition (Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald) congratulated Mr. E. W. Kane on his receut appointment a* Clerk of the House. v Mr. H. S. Hislop, manager of Messrs. Stewart Dawson and Company's Wei-' lington branch, will leave by the Manuka to-dav on a business visit to Sydney and Melbourne. Ho expects to be absent from New Zealand for about six weeks. Mr. J. W. A.. Heonan, LL.B., has been appointed assistant law draftsman to the Government. Mr. F. G. Nind has been appointed deputy-registrar of births, deaths and, marriages at To .Kuiti, and Mr. J. Tv | Sage has been similarly appointed ' to the Ohakune district. Mr. Arthur G. Bignell has been ap-, pointed' a member of tho Assessment, Court for the Castleeliff town district. The Rev. William C;>rey. an Indian missionary, is at present visiting Ins brother, Mr. J. B. Carey, Petoufl. Ths Rev. Mr. Carey, who hus seen 84 years'; missionary service in India, is a grandson of thio late Dr. Carey, who had tha distinction of being the fast missionary! to follow his calling in India. Constable J. O'Connor, of tho Wellington Wharf Police, has been transferred to Timaru, and will leave on Tuesday night to talco up his duties.
