HURDLES WON BY SILENT WAY. (Rec. June 17, ,9.40 p.m.)
Sydney, June 17. The Australian Jockey Ohib'u winter meeting, which was made specially attractive owing to the Prince's „ visit, commenced to-day. There was an attendance of 65 000. 'Tho Prince attended unofficially, hut was soon recognised, and enthusiastically greeted. The following were the results for the principal events:— HURDLES HANDICAP, of MO sovs. Two miles. Silent Way, by Calibre-Golden Way, list. 21b. 1 Sir Rep,. Sat. - --'i Breastwork, 9et" 121b > 3 Tho winner lay third until three furlongs from home, a.nd finished strongly, winning by flvo lengths. Time, 3min. 433 sec. STEEPLECHASE HANDICAP, of 500 govs. Two miles and a half. Compromise, by Trenchant—Promise list. 81b 1 Algous, lOst. 121b. 8 Miss Rosslyn, 12st 3 Hnlf a mile from home Miss Rosslyn took chnjge temporarily, but Compromise led over th» last Jump, and won by half a length.
