A PERMIT WANTED

BY TROTTING CLUB.

A request for a totalisator permit for tho Mastcrton Trotting Club was n.ade to the Minister of Internai! Affairs (Hon, G. J. Anderson) yesterday by a depittar tion from the committee of the club. Mr. G. R. Syltes introduced the deputation.

It was pointed out in support of the application that tho nearest trotting meeting was at Greytown, 25 milea distant, and the next at Palnurston, 80 miles distant. The (Mastcrton Racing Club were prepared to give to the new Trotting Club full use of the course and grounds for the meeting. The population of Masterton was 7000, and a 9 indicating tho demand in the town and district fcr the sport of trotting, it was mentioned that the new club had a membership of 500.

The Minister 6aid that he was anxious to get affi the information he could in Regard l to racing, for, ho _ said, the administration. of it from his point of rjow was difficult. He did not want to see racing injured, and he wanted to consider the -best way of dealing with this and similar applications in the interests of all classes. He was not in a position ,1-0 give a definite reply to tho' request. He intended to submit to Cabinet the whole matter of the issue of totalisator permits, and the representations of the Mnsterton Club would receive consideration with the other applications which had already been received by the Department.
