MR. MAGNA MARA- APPOINTED SECOND ASSISTANT SECRETARY.
Mr. George Macnanmrn, who hns teen acting as Chief Inspector of Post Oflicos for some weeks ptist,' litis been appointed Second Assistant Secretary of tno Post iukl Telegraph Department, in succession to Mr. G. B. Dall. retired. Mr. itncnnmarn joined the 6en'ice on Hine 1. 1896—the year the price of twelve-word telegrams dropped- from a shilling ;to sixpence—as a cadet in Tnvercargill, was a cilerk in the same office in 1901, and ip 1908 was transferred to the General Post Office staff. He became Assistant Superintendent of Staff on April 1, -.91-, ana Superintendent of Staff (in succession lo Mr. A. T, Markman) on April 1, 191fi, a position he held until quite recently, when, on Mr. ,T. C. Williamson s Mireinent, he became Acting-Cluef Inspector of Post Oflicos. Mr.- Macnamara, who is 39 years of age, is known throughout the service ns a thoroughly reliable and e»»* oient officer, and possesses in no oidm£\ry measure those fjiutlitics i.osircd in on administrative oilicer.
