CENTRAL PROGRESS LEAGUE
At tho monthly meeting of the general committee of tho Central Progress League reference was made to the rapidly developing Iruit industry, especially as it concerns growers in the Nelson and Motuekti districts. Tho k-ugue had been approached with a. viewto their seeking some rapid solution B to tho problem of transport of fruit from the orchards to ships, for cither local or export markets. v It was decided by the league to take immediate steps to organise a branch of tho league in Motueka, so that a coordination of effort might be secured in' this matter so vitally connected with the development of this industry. Tho • league endorsed and approved tho principle of "boards of business men and experts" being set up for tho purpose of carrying out and ultimately controlling the hydro-electrio schemes throughout tho Dominion. Mr. Q. Mitchell, M.P., lion, ssecretnry, suggested to tho general committeo tho advisability of holding a conference of representatives of all the. power boards throughout tho Dominion as soon as they are set up, hi order tliat they might take united action in the matter of purchase of poles and other materials for the roticulation of. their respective districts. They would, he pointed out, thus obvjate competition and be able to make the best possible bargain. Ho also laid stress on tho need for ensuring a sufficient supply of cement for these national works.
The hou. secretary reported that close touch had been established between Wellington and Napier, Blenheim, Nelson; Mastorton and Carterton, and that within a few weeks active- branches of the Control League would bo established in these coritros; .
