JGabrielle Rejano (Charlotte Reju), with Duse, took rnnk with the "Diviuo Sarah/' among the great Frenoh actresses of the past half-century. She was born in Pans.in 1856, was educated at the Paris Conservatoire, and made her first appearance at the Vaudeville Theatre, Paris, in 1875, in "La Revuo des deux Mondes," and thereafter made hit oftcr hit in Buoh plays as "Ma Camarade," "Clara Soleil," "Decore," "Shylock," "Ma Coußine," "Madame Sans Gene," "Zara," "Le Lys Rouge-" (The lied Lily), "La Robe Rouge" ("Under the Red Robe"), "Sylvie. She opened the Royalty as a Frenoh. repertory theatre in 1906. Madame Rejane appeared on more than one occasion in London, .wtably when "Sans Gene," the Napoleonio comedy, was first introduced, to England, a pky in which Miss Ellen Terry subsequently appeared.
