The Hon. C. J. Parr (Minister of Education) left for Christchurch last night.
Mr. E. W. Kane has been appointed Clerk of the House of Representatives, in succession to Mr, A. I\ Lowe, and the position of olerk assistant, vacated by Mr. Kane, lias been given to Mr. W. Dasent. ~,
■ The following have been elected members of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce :—Messrs. J. A. Carpenter, C. W. Itu'shbrook, R, A". Wakelin, W. F. L. Ward, and James Young.
Mr. B. A. Shrimpton, chief telegraph engineer,, will leave on a business visit to England to-day by the Ulimaroa. During his absence Mr. Arthur Gibbs will carry out tho duties of acting-chief telegraph engineer.
Mr. M. Carr, president of the. Wellington Chamber of Commerce and the Wellington Bowling Club, is leaving on a business trip to Australia to-day.
As a mark of respect to -tho .late exCouncillor Thomas Carmichael, the civic flag was flown at half-mast from the Town Hall yesterday.
Tho council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce passed the following resolution at Tuesday's meeting:—"That tho chamber learns with deep regret of the death of Mr. C. R. Smith, and desires to place on record its appreciation of his work in the interest of the commercial community of Wellington, and as a member of tho chamber since 1910." Colonel W. Rv Morris, C.M.G., 1.5.0., recently appointed Public Servioe Commissioner, has relinquished the appointment of Director of Post and Telegraph Services, New Zealand P. and T. Engineers, and has been posted to the retired list, with permission, to retain his Tank and wear the prescribed uniform. Mr. R. B. Morris, who has become Secretary to the Post Office, has been appointed Director of Post and Telegraph Services, with the rank of colonel.
Major J. A. Cowles. of Mnsterton, who saw service on the' Western front, has been promoted to the rank of lieutenantcolonel in the Territorial Force, and appointed fo the command of tho 17th (Ruahine) Regiment.
Mr. M. Rudd, who has been attached to_ the head office staff of the Union Steam Ship Company at Duncdin for the pasf eighteen months, has been appointed assistant manager of tho company's Auckland branch. Mr. A. F. Roberts has been elected vice-president of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Ralph Andrews, manager for Now Zealand for Messrs. Lipton, Limited, left Auckland by tho Niagara for Sydney to take control ns general manager of tho firm'iT'Australosian interests. He frill bo succeeded in New Zealand by Mr. C. R, Gooeh, who was for many years In charge of tho tea department of Messrs. Neill and Co., Ltd., of Dunedin.
The Rev. W. Raine, vicer of Foxton, has been appointed in charge of tho' parish of Maryborough, and will take MP his duties thore shortly-
