ALICE PARKINSON CASE
—_ . STATEMENT By MINISTER. . The case of Alice Parkinson, who, some five years ago, -was sentenced, to life imprisonment for manslaughter at Napier, has again been receiving the consideration of the Government. Prom time to time numerous petitions andresolutions have been presented to the Government asking for the . circumstances of the prisoner's case to be considered with a view to her release being granted. The Minister of Justice, tho Hon. E. P. Lee, stated yesterday that Cabinet had decided upon the introduction of legislation which will allow of Alice Parkinson's case, and similar cases, to .be placed under the jurisdiction of the Prisons Board. Should Parliament pass the legislation proposed, it would enable this cases to be considered by the Prisons Board which will have power to make a recommendation' to His Excellency the Governor-Genera' for the release npon, probation of the prisoners situated as Alice Parkinson is ' if tho board deems suoh action advisable.
