At a meeting of tho Masterton branch of tho Educational Institute the following resolutions were passed:— "That this meeting concurs with the grading conference in reaffirming ira confidence in tho principle of tho old. grading scheme, and is therefore the more surprised that the conferences own amending proposals are so drastic in character as to constitute a rejection of tho established system. lwo cardinal features of the proposed now scheme—the'increase of the quota ana tho reduction of tho marks for scholastic nttaiumc-nt-this meeting is of opinion are both prejudicial to'the success of the grading system and lnimica. to tho welfare of the teaching profession and therefore of our primary school. It hopes that upon review the Department will revert, to _ the main lines'of tho old scheme, which.has now obtained wide acceptance. . xrlr „ T "That this branch of the N.Z.E.T. wishes emphatically to dissociate itself from the strictures passed upon the grading system by tho Auckland teachers, and to place on record its apprecia-. lion of the courageous and judicious er-forts-at last succcssfiil-of tho Assist-ant-Director to have Hie Auckland teachers graded on a basis fair .o the remaining teachers of the Dominion.
