KARORI-AN ACQUISITION
OUTLYING DISTRICTS COMMITTEE'S REPORT. The following report by the Outlying Districts Committee on its visit to Karori on June 3 was submitted to the City Council last evening:— "Members of the Outlying Districts Committee, together with other city councillors and officers, availed themselves of the hqliday to make an inspection, of the whole of the Karori district. We are pleased to state that we found the roads generally in very fair condition, and many of them curbed and channelled. Tho. late .Mayor of Karori (Councillor Burn) pointed.out the works the late borough had in contemplation and the various,masters-they had taken into consideration from time to time. After inspecting the roads, we visited tho Kaiori Park. The whole area was found to be in excellent condition; the plantation around the sides was. good, although certain trees would have to be repiaeed. These were pointed out to the Director of Parks and Reserves, who will include whatever is necessary in this years planting. "The quarry was found in good order and condition, with ample supply of metal for '.lie district. Good reserves had been provided for, owing to the good foresight of the late borough counc "j '-i l '' o J l }' 6 borough council also had under consideration tlie establishment of iresh water baths and children's plav J?™* These matters were referred to the officers for future consideration, the area of tlio district wa.? outlined as lar as the boundaiy could be seen, and it was p.easing to note the large amount ot ground available for future building. •UurniL*' the visit wo were met by a large deputation from the Karori Progressive League who brought under out notice a pi epos? 1 lor altering the old' Karori Council Chambers into a'- public lmll also the need of rest parks for picnic purposes, to be provided for the future Ihey suggested a certain site which lias now a fine belt trees at khe backthereof. Ihe owners of the property (who were, introduced) intend to place an offer of this ground before the council, upon which the officers can report at a later date, if necessary. It will also he necessary 4o obtain a report from our officers as to what alterations, if uny, are required at tho Council Chamber. aii'i what accommodation it will bo newsarv to leave for tho department's own requirements. Tlio main points stressed by the depuration were for good access to Ihe city and for water and drainage at as early n. dato as possible, iiie visit win, an enjoyable and profitab.e one. and the council's knowledge of the city's new area was thereby increased. "The late borough council rented a quarry at .the top of Makara Hill for about i£s per annum. This enabled the roaoway on the hill side of the park to be metalled much more cheaply than by carting tho metal up tho hill from the quarry within the park area. It may be considered desirable to continue this arrangement. "The committee thanked the deputation on behalf of the council, anil promised, that their requests will bo placed before the council at tho earliest opportunity."
