Mr. Edgar Craxnmond, lecturing aC tho Bankers' Institute, estimated the real cost of the .war aa follows:— £ Great Britain 3,500,000,000 France 5,450,000,000 Italy 1,900,000,000 ' Belgium 500,000,000 Germany 8,700,000,000 The cost was equivalent to 12 per cent, of Great Britain's national wealth,' 25 per cent, of that of France, 20' per cent, of that of Italy, and 26 per cent. 1 of that ot Germany. He pointed out ihat the moderate decrease in the wealth by the United Kingdom _was offset by the substantial increase in that of the overseas Dominions and possessions.
