SAILORS' FRIEND SOCIETY
Mr. H, T. Johns presided at a meeting held in the Institute of the Sailors' Friend Society on Tuesday, when tho following remarks were uttered by seamen concerning the death of Mrs. Williams, tho founder of the building. Tho Amokura, Zealandia, Waiwova, lonic, and Canadian Exporter were representedWe are deeply Borry, for in all parts of the world wo have hearl men express their thanks for the institute, and now those same men would blend their sorrow with ours did tlioy but know their loss. She was young in her ideas for üb, though old in years, and we shall miss hor. We have found this a raro place to come to when from homo. We shall miss her lace indeed." Tho motion of sympathy and respect was carried in silence, tho crowded audience standing. . At 8 p.m. a concert was given, when items were contributed by members of H.lif.S. lonic, assisted by Mrs, A. L. Cox, and Mr. O'Snllivan. Other performers wero: Messrs. Clarke. A. B. Moore, Phillips, Itohertson, Cross, Hodges. Onnnelly, Harris, Warren, and ltundle. Mrs. A. L. Cox was nfc tho piano. Mr. lioorc. Mis* sionor, said tho bookshelves were empty, and he would bo so i?lad of reading matter that would white away the lonely houiß at sea.
