AUTOMOBILE CLUB
VABIOTJS HATTEItS CONSIDERED. The last meeting of the committee of the Wellington Automobile Club was attended by Messrs. 0. M. Banka (chairman), B. I. Donne, h. E. Partridge, H. Lloyd, W. Manteil, W. Stuart: Wilson, and U. J. Stott, secretary. The Taita School Committee wrote,, asking if the club were prepared to erect school signs. The secretary was directed to reply, stating that the club proposed to eet a supply of sign-boards of a uniform design, and would be prepared to donate thorn if the school committee would hare them erected. The secretary reported that tho City Engineer had intimated his intention of erecting motorißtß' school signs in the city. ' It was resolved that it be a remit to the New Zealand-Automobile Union that a uniform sign, warning motorists when approaching schools, should be prepared and submitted to the union at the annual meeting,- with the object of making the sign of a uniform nature throughout Kew Zealand. The secretary submitted a legal opinion obtained with regard to the legality of a motorist passing a standing tramear, in which it appeared that the City Council's by-law forbidding a motorist to-pass a standing tramear on the right-hand aide stands good. It was arranged that a series of articles of interest to Motoristß and for the tafety of the public should be written by a professional journalist, and same bo submitted to the committee before publication. Correspondence was received from the Automobile Olub of Queensland enclosing copies of fixture card, etc. The secretary's reply, in which he thanked the secretary of tho Queensland Club for his action, and also intimating- that an exchangeof ideas and actions of their respective clubs would be reciprocated, was approved. Tho Auckland Automobile Association frrote, giving further particulars of companies that were working in that district to produce motor spirit locally; It was resolved that the committee appoint delegates to interview the Prime Minister with regard to the lack of petrol available, and also recommending that tho Government should support the production of a locally-produced motor fuel by granting a subsidy. The secretary was empowered to pro- < ecod with tho safety first campaign by , printing notices warning pedestrians of motor traffic, Buch notices to be sent to ' every member of thn club, with a request ' that he paste on tho wind screen of his i car for, say, one month. i It was decided to ask Mr. Drake, the city motor inspector. If he would he pre- j pared to givo a lecture to members on . any subjects of interest to motorists. The secretary of the New Zealand Auto- ■ mobile Union attended the meeting, and * was asked to explain the insuranccf < Bchcmc initiated by tho union, in which i members of all affiliated associations will ' be given distinct advantages. After a , lengthy discission, it was finally agreed . that tho committee were in favour of tho scheme, and that It would be nccossary to sot up a sub-committee to settle drills.
