The elections passed without incident, with the exception of some disturbance at Essen. The polling is heavy, and it is estimated that at least 80 per cent, voted. It is believed ithat the People's Party and the Independent ' Socialists havo made good progress in Berlin and the country districts. The Democrats «nd Plural Socialists lost ground. The latest figures are:— Majority Socialists, thirty-four seats. • Independents, twenty-four Beats. People's Party (Liberals), twenty-three Vseats. " Jfemocrats, sixteen seats. Tho election of Erzbergor, Leader of tho Cento (Catholic) Parly, is regarded as assured. Count Bernstorft (ex-Ambassador at Washington)' was defeated. The last German Assembly was composed of 163 Social Democrats, 89 Centre Catholics, 71 Democrats, 42 National Peopie's Party, 22 Independents, and 22 G«rmnn People's Party.—Reuter. • THE LATEST RETURN (Rec. June 8, 11.10 p.m.) Berlin, Juno 7. So far 16,202,000 votes havo been oounted, which are distributed as follows:— - Independont Socialists 3,017,000 Social Domocrats 3,522,000 People's Party/ 2,030|000 National Party 2,172,000 Centre Party 1,803,000 Democrats 1,620,000 Communists 328J000 Out of IGO members elected, 48 are Independents, 41 Social Democrats, 29 Nationalists, 20 Centralist, and 11 Democrats.
