Auckland again walked to work to-day. Until 9 a.m. the fog was very thick, and most of the wheeled traffic carried lights. The suburban trains were crowded, and motor 'busee did a roaring trade. More people walked home in the evening than would otherwise have been the case, owing to many motors having been divertod in the late afternoon to the races. For the same reason the Railway Department found it impossible to put on extra trains. All the jockeys at Ellerslie carried out their riding engagements, find the Railway Department ran race trains. The conference between the Mavor and Mr. Roberts, secretary of tho National Federation, continued during the day.
