For second offences for drunkenness, John M'Donald and Richard Jacob Rasmiusen wero each- fined 10s.; William M'Elwain, for his fourth offence, was fined £2; and Jabez Wooldridee, who was also convicted of dmmkenncßß, was fined 305., and on his own reonfest a prohibition order was issued ajtalnst him to bo in force for a period of twelve months. Deniß William Quill, who was found at night on Dr. Cameron's nremises in Willis Street, was sentnnced to two months' imprisonment. Joseph Crate was fined 20a. for havm? committed a nuisance in a side street. Daniel Andrew Williams was charpred with the theft of an overcoat valued at £5, the property, of William Sauires. The coat and a hat had been left in tho hall of the Royal Oak Hotel, and when the owner returned they wero not to be found l . The coat was eventually dlsrovered in a seoond-hand shop, where Williams had sold it for 17s. 6d. The accused admitted havin<r sold the coat, hut stated that it had been handed to him by another man on whoso behalf he had sold it. Ho was unable to furnish tho namo of this other man. Chief Detective Ward said that dnrinpr the last threo months coats had been disappearing from hotels and motor-carß much too frequently. Williams was sentenced to a month's imprisonment. MAINTENANCE OASES. William Georco' Thomas, who was in arrears in respect to a maintenance order to the amount of £3 4s. 9d„ was sentenced to a month's imprisonment, tho warrant to bo suspended as Ion? as the arrears are paM off at the ratio of 7s. fid. per week. Frederick Blaekli'dge, whose arrears totalled £20 45.. was also sentenced to a month's imprisonment, warrant to bo suspended bo lons as 12s. 6d. per week la paid oil. William James Glllhain was sentenced to a month's imprisonment for disobeying a maintenance order, his arrears totalling £17 15s„ the warrant to remain In abeyance so lone a» lis. per wtek is paid off. An order was made that RoKer Robert Middleton should pay 30s. per week towards the support of his wife.
