— 9 , MEETING Vl' CARTERTON. From Our Special Correspondent.' Carterton, June 7. The monthly meeting of the Wairal'apa Hydro-Electric Power Board was held at Carterton to-day, Mr. T. V. Moore, acting-chairman, presiding. The State' Advances Office wroto advising that a three-fifth majority was required of tho total valid voto on • a poll to carry a Loan.—lt was Tesolved to inquire if the above ad rice had been confirmed by the Crown Law Office. Tho Valuer-General wrote stating that he knew of no obligation upon liis Fiepartmeut to provide a. valuation rato roll to the Electric Power Board, but if the board provided one his Department) would check same over. The opinion was expressed that the rate rolls of the boroughs and counties should bo sufficient, and to prepare a separate • roll over: tho whole area' meant—at a small estimate six months* continuous work.. . The Hydro-Electrio Power Act, 1918, did iiot' eay this was necessary. The position of tho Power Beard was that they simply stated what was required, and the local bodies collected the amount, and would naturally, work in their 1 own rolls. It was resolved that the board's £oli« citors bo authorised to consult with lliv T. ■ F. Martin, municipal' solicitor, foe an opinion on the matter, and if necesj sary a committee consisting of Messrs. J. Martin, T. V. Moore, and P. E. Smith was appointed' to interview tha Public Works Department and, if ths Valuation Department, on tha. matter. Tho Bank of New Zealand wroto approving of an overdraft for the board for £3000. Mr. Toogood, engineer, reported liav< ing engaged the necessary labour andl work on the sito commenced on May 24. The engineer suggested that_ the Tioard should visit the locality in a fortnight's time. Messrs. W. Howard Booth, W. A.-, Hutton, aud It. J. lving were appointed to sign cheques with tho treasurer. Mr. A. D. M'Leod, M.P., was present; by invitation, and addressed the meeting in committee, and was accorded a' vote of thanks. Mention was made to tho announce mcnt of the distribution of power from Mangaliao scheme, and it was decided to enter a protest against Wairaiupn' being omitted in the distribution. The ixrard will interview the Minister next week in support of tin resolution. Jlr. A. D. M'Leod, M.P., will accompany the deputation. It was resolved to Becuro a six months' option over a. site near the Carterton railway ptntion for building purposes. , It was resolved that tho last con; tribution of i:10 each from tho locar bodies be refunded.
