ANGLICAN BOYS' HOMES
iJEW HOME TO BE PURCHASED. A meeting of the Anglican Boys' Homes' Society was held last night to consider the proposals for the purchase of a house at Lower Hutt, and acquiring more land. The president (Mr. J. W. Henderson) presided over a good attendance. . The chairman mentioned the objects for which the meeting had been called, and he said that already a number of people had raised a sum of money to-' wards buying the houso.. A house, within two or three minutes' walk of the other homes at the lower Hutt, had been viewed, and an option taken over it. The building contains ten rooms and stands in 3£ acres of land, with 100 ft. frontage.to Main Road. The: price for the house would be .£3500. The executive and architects _ had inspected i the house and were satisfied that nothing better could be found already built, i "With a few alterations, the house would hold 60 children. Already i'IOOO odd had been collected, and another .£101)0 had' been -promised, but had yet to be collected. In addition a sum of ,£2'lo wag in the treasurer's hands and could only be used for eitention purposes. He moved that the executive be authorised to proceed with the purchase of the property. The Rev. A. L. Hansell stated that the present buildings were too small, and it would be a case of moving, into buildings still too small. There were at present 28 boys at the home, but these could only be boardled with a squeeze. The speaker desired to know whether the executive could proceed with the proposed alterations. It was of no uso purchasing tho property unless the alterations could be immediately carried out. The chairman stated that this, would b9 done. The motion was carried ■unanimously, and it was also decided to authorise the executive to carry out the alterations and additions necessary to the extent of iBIOOO. Mr. Henderson said that it was hoped to Taise more money, and it was pro--pesed to purchase five sections of the Mason Estate on the Main Road, lower Hutt, adjoining the four aores recently purchased by the society. _ Mr. Henaeison moved that authority be given to the executive to go into the matter of purchasing the sections. Mr. E. H. Ballachey said that he did not think the purchase of these sections necessary. Tho society . had decided to purchase, the house a short distance away, and he could not seo what use it would be to have the extra property. Of course, it would onable tho four acres nllraady possessed by the' society to be cut up easier in years to come. The speaker said that the purchasing of the sections would have the effect of maldng a shorter way into the land for the boys in tho new home and also it would have the effect of enabling a straight road to be made from the main road into tho ground.
