TURF SCANDAL
REVELATIONS IN FRANCE. (Bee. June 4,0.6 a.m.) tondon, June 2. The- "Daily Chronicle's" Paris correspondent reports that a turf scandal has been revealed at Saint Cloud as a result of a jockey, who was accused of pulling the favg.urite, admitting thathe was guilty and pleading that other jockeys also received bribes from bookmakers. Investigation showed that although bookmakinir is illegal, iCMIO.OOO is being placed with bookmakers every day. Bookmakers have rtin army of touts in cafes and restaurants!. Certain jockeys have been participating in bookmakers' profits after polling heavilybacked horses. It is now proposed to open totalisator offices in. Paris and to impose heavy increases in penalties against bookmakers in ojrder to stop bookmaking.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Asm.
