ARMENIAN MANDATE
AUTHORITY TO ACCEPT IT REFUSED BY AMERICAN SENATE DISTURBANCE BY IRISH SYMPATHISERS (By Telegraph-Press Association-Oopyriirht Washington, May 31. The Senate by 43 votea to 34, rejected a motion to delay action on tho question of the Armenian mandate until the peace, agreement with the Central Powers i 3 reached. Washington, Juno 1. By an overwhelming vote, the Senate resolved to refuse President Wilson's request for power to accept tho mandate over Armenia. Irish women sympathisers created a scene in tho Senate galleries. Hecklers demanded tlio expulsion of tho English from Ireland. The ushers removed a dozen women, who struggled and shouted. Tho proceedings were suspended until the ejections woro completed.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

An earlier message indicated that Congress was not likely to grant tlio request, on the ground that the cost and responsibilities of undertaking the mandate were too great at the present time.]
