CITY MILK SUPPLY

(To the EdriwO Sir—ln reference to a letter in today's Dominion, appearing over tl\o nnmo of "W. Barton, Featherston," ro supply of milk to the city. I think it is necessary that the true facts of this case should be put before the citizens of Wellington. Farmers supplying over 3000 gallons of milk per day agreed, with the approval of the Board of Trade, to accept Is. sd. per gallon, delivered in Wellinafon. In some cafes freight on this milk is lid. per gallon. As far back os the beginning of April, tho!Milk Committee made inquiries from flie"Featherston factory, with a view to purchasing the whole of the Featherston company's output of milk until the end of July. The Fcathe-ston company demanded Is. 6d. per gallon at the factory door; the cartage and freight on same are approximately 3d. per gallon, thus making Featherston milk Is. 9d. per gallon, delivered in Wellington. The i«r-» mers supplying the milk department with the 3000 gallons already referred to, bv arrangement and with the approval of the Board of Triuhv were quite willing that the Fentherstth Cooperative Factors' should receive Id. per gallon more than what they were receiving, and in conformity with this, the milk department offered to take the whole of the_B.ui)nly of milk from Featherston at Is. 3d. per gallon, at the factory. It must thus be apparent that the committee hns offered the Featherston company tho maximum price permitted by this arrangement, and that the committee is in fact precluded from offering more—l am, etc., W. H. BENNETT, 'Acting-Chairman, Milk Committee. Wellington, Juno 1.
