A BERESFORD MEMORIAL
A letter was received from the Christohurch branch of the Navy League by the Wellington branch raising the question of soliciting subscriptions towards a memorial to tho late Admiral Lord Charles Beresford, an outstanding figure in the naval affairs both at sea and on land. The letter was based on a communication which had boon -received from England, which set out the great work Lord Beresford had done for tho Empire, both as an officer of the Navy and a member of Parliament. Only part of the inonev that was subscribed was to be devoted to a permanent memorial, the remainder to be 'used in some effooii-e way that would foster the principles lie stood for. Canfain Chudlev said that undoubtedly the late Lord Beresford stood out from the ruck as a continual advocate in and out of Parliament for a strong' navy.
'J'iio chairman (Colonel A. F. Roberts) said that they might advise Christchurch Hint they were favourably disposed towards the suggestion. Tin's was another "of the many subjects which indicate the necessity of establishing n Dominion executive (as Mis. Dar'lkir; had urged).. The chairman's suggestion was approved, tho Christchurch branch to be asked if it had any scheme to offer in connection with the raising of funds for the purpose mentioned..
