THE CITY MILK SUPPLY
Sir,—l noticed in your issue of Saturn dav last a letter from some poor personwanting milk, and stating that the CityCouncil wore allowancing her small quantities. Your citizens may not know that for twenty years or more some of us at. Fentherstou have supplied the city with milk during-five months in the year. We, have made special efforts to have winter dairies and to provide feed for the cattle. I may say that, in my opinion, it costs Is, Bil.' a day this winter to feed a cow, rnd 9d. a day to look after it, making: 2s. Bd. a day to keep a aow. Well, after all our provisions the City Council has, cut us out, and is endeavouring to mako its supplies from other quarters Inst out. Wc, the few individuals mentioned above, am between two nuUstoncs—the City Council and tho directors of our co-oper-ative factory—into whose hands we committed our dairy business. We cannot net individually, and no one else hns any individual incentive to negotiate. Winter, dairying being very costly, we sbajl arrange to givo it up as soon as possible.— Inm,et °- ■ W. BARTON. Fcatherston, May 29, 1920.
