DEATH OF DR. MORRISON
POLITICAL ADVISER TO CHINESE PRESIDENT. (Rec. May 31, 7.40 p.m.) London, May 31. Obituary.—Dr. George Ernest Morrison, political adviser .to the Chinese Presi-dent.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. (Rec. June 1, 1.5 a.m.) London, May 30. Dr. Morrison died'at Sidmouth after a lingering illness. He was occupied to the last in carrying out work for the Chinese Government from' his sick room. —"The Times." [Dr. Morrison had a wonderfully adventurous career. He was born at Geelong, Victoria, in 1862, and studied at Melbourne and Edinburgh Universities, graduating M.B. and CM. in 1887. In 1882 he walked from the Gulf of Carpentaria to Melbourne,' a distance of 2013 miles, which he covered in 123 days, and the _ following year lie undertook an expedition to New Guinea, where he was wounded by two nativo Spears. In 1891 ho crossed from Shanghai to Rangoon by land, a distance of 3000 miles. As special correspondent for the London "Times" he travelled from Bangkok, in Siam.i to Yunnan City, in China, and round Tonquin in 1890, and the following year ho crossed Mauchuria from Stret'ensk, in Siberia, to Vladivostok. He was in Peking during the siege of the- Legations in 1900, was present at the triumphant entry into Port Arthur in 1905, and represented "The Times" at the Portsmouth Peace Conference in 1905. In 1907 lie crossed China from Peking to the French Irarder of Tonquin, and in 1910 he rode from Honan city, in Central China, across Asia to Andrjan, in Russian Turkestan, 3750 miles, in 175 days. Dr. Morrison travelled in every province of China except Tibet. He had held the position of political adviser to the President of the Chinese Republic since 1912."]
