■ .—. IN CONNECTION WITH LONDON , UNIVERSITY. London, May 29. The King, who was accompanied by Queen Mary, laid the foundation stone of a new school of economics in connection with London University. The project has received substantial support from London merchants, while the tru& tees of the estate of Sir Ernest Cassel donated ' The Lord Mayor, on behalf of the City, to-day donated <£50.000.

Replying to an address of welcome, His Majesty paid a tribule to the response of the universities to the call of the war, and to the brilliant contributions of science in modern warfare. He emphasised that a London degree was valued far bevond the British Isles. The advantages afforded by the resources of the metropolis' gave its university a uniquo influence in the education system of tho Empire—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Reuter.
