PETONE AFFAIRS

The Pctone Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) presiding. The Health Officer, Wellington, reported 18 cases of influenza and 6 cases of other Infectious disease in the district. A request by Mr. \V. 11. Long for per- " mission to subdivide a portion of his Koro Koro property was referred to tho engineer. Mr. L. Jenness was granted a secondhand dealer's license. It was decided to support tho resolution passed by tho Stratford Borough Council: "That tho Government to asked to tako tho necessary steps to make Saturday afternoon a universal half-Jioliday." Tho Palmerston North Boroueh Council wrote requesting the council's support to the following resolution:—''That tho Government he requested to at once use every endeavour to obtain adequato supplies of cement which iB so urgently required by local bodies for tho purpose of undertaking important works they now have in hand."—lt wao decided to support the reso lution.

Support was given to the following resolution passed by the Hawera Borough Council:—"That with a view to affording some measure of relief to tuo parents of families during tho, nreaont abnormal times, and taking into consideration the fact that tho New Zealand manufacturers are unablo to cope with tho demand for adult footwear, tho Government be rer.ueßtej) to immediately take tho necessary Btens for the removal' of the duty ou children's footwear."
