FRUITGROWERS' CONFERENCE CONCLUDED
Tho annual conference of tho New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation was coneluded yesterday under tho piesidency of Mr. J. Laugton. . A number of complaints wore recenetl from delegates relative to the delay in the transmission of fruit ov-r the railways. It was reported tlint on nceusions it had taken seven days for truit Id got from Nelson to New llymoiith and moro than two weeks from to Dunedin. A delegate mentioned tlint four days before he left Cemral Otngo in order to attend the conference lie had dispatched a small. consignment of fruit to Wellington, and it had not yet arrived at its destination. , Another instance cited was that of a consignment of poors which had taken nine days to got from Gray town to Wellington. 1 mil, it was stated, was frequently sent by tho Department 011 the slowest trains. Tho conference set up a transport committee to wait on the General Manager of Railways and plow the whole position before him with a view to specdinj up tha delivery of consignments. Having regard to tho increased cost of living, it was decided to increase delegates' expenses from 10s. to Lis. per .'i'iio next conference will be held in tho middle of .Tune, 1021. Tho election of directors for the onRiling year resulted as follows:—■ Messrs' Longton (Canterbury), Neil! (W olhnglon), Po'ltridgo and Atvrood (Auckland).
