MILK

Sir,—At tlio present time I really ' think the word "milk" will be of in-; teres I: to all Wellington residents; it's' a case of talking of ic but not seeing, it these days. Since the supply of ■ milk was taken over by tlio Ciiy Council there has been a continual shortage, and the price has steadily risen. Wo liavo now reached the limit of endurance, I think, when a. family of eight, ' usually Retting a quart of milk each ' day, is now rationed to half a pint—, luckily there are no children. What ■ mothers do with several little ones to look after I really don't know. Milk ■■ is the foundation of all food for child- . ren. and as the State requires healthy, children to 1 help build up a strong na- ; tion it. is about time the milk question i was taken in hand and dealt with. I understand there is milk and plenty going to waste in different parts of the 1 country for the reason that farmers i will not sell their milk at the present . price. _ Why i his everlasting iucreaso ? in price for 1 necessities which are produced ill our own country? It is high : time we had an efficient head to look':' into affairs and let the community at-, forge have tli® icssentia'Js of (life at i reasonable prices—l am. etc., j

MLLKLESS. : J J lie manager of (lie Municipal Depot i slated yesterday '/lat some r.atiouiny of ! milk had been necessary lately owing'! to a shortage of supplies. Every effort j was beiiyj made to allot the millc fairly, i Aegotiations' were in progress for an iii- ■ creased supply, and lie hoped to he able •>' to maKe an announcement on the subject 1 shortly.—Editor Donisiox.l
