WELCOMED HOME

EOSENEATH RETURNED SOLDIERS. Last night the Roseneatli and Oriental Bay Municipal Association save a "welcome home" to returned soldiers of the district. Mr. H. R. Van Borssum (chair* man of the School Committee) presided. At the commencement of the function the audience stood at attention as a mark of respect to the fallen. Mr. H. W. Morrison (president or Hie Roseneatli and Oriental Bay Municipal Association), in welcoming tzm soldiers home, mentioned the loct that several Army nurses were present and lie also welcomed them back. He spoke of their fine work at the front, and 6aM that tlw. New Zealand soldiers had not only gained for themselves a reputation as soldiers while overseas, but also one for their splendid conduct, which bad been unsurpassed. Mr. R. Darroch (the headmaster of Roseneatli School), on behalf of the pupils and teachtrs of the school, welcomed "the boys" home. He said that a school lived on its traditions, and that the New Zealand loldiers while away at the front had made traditions. He' expressed the hope that the opinion. "Nothing is too good for the soldiers," expressed when the troops left New Zealand, would be materialised and that now they had returned the soldiers would find'that this was bo. Dr. A. K. Newman, M.P. for the district, related what the country was doing for tho soldiers. He mentioned the work at tho Trentham Military Hospital and at Hanmer. Mr. Deavoll returned thanks on behnlf of the soldiers, and the meeting Bans "For They Are Jolly fiood Felfcws." ■ During tho evening songs were rendered by Misses M. Grant, D. P. Pritchnrd, C. Uihle*. If, Nflwman, :'*l Mr. S. Nelson. Mr. W. E. G. Paqualin gave a monologue, and Mr. J. F. Crec-d a recitation. Mrs. A. H. Finch presided at the piano. Supper was served by the kdifts, and tho evening concluded with dandng.
