WINCATUI TRACK WORK. By Telegraph—Prc-?s Association. Dunodin, May 26. . This morninpr was an off day for callouing, but a good deal of interesting schooling work took place. The overnight rain had practically no effect on the noinc beyond doing it more cood than harm. Oalaria whs shaping a trifle tetter than Jack Symons in a run over hurdles, and they were followed several lenqths behind by Wild' Pilgrim, who nut up a satisfao tory display. All Talk was schooled alone, and .shaped fairly well, but Achilleus refused several timed before completing the circuit of Ihe hurdles. •Diavolo .and Coalition went round over tho schooling fences, both jumping well, and the former then went another circuit. bat appeared to be tiring towards the end. Tuticorn we.nt round oyer tho hurdles, and then Palladio. Zarkoma. Silvcrsniro. and Black Sea wero nut together over tho schooling fences. Palladio led out and showed the way over tho first circuit, at tho end of which Black Sen. waspulfed off. Zarkoma moved up to Palladio. nnd they came on together over the final part of tho second circuit, with little between them at the finish. Both horses shaped wellQuite a largo number of horses got through useful tasks on the flat, and so great was the demand on stalls that several had to unit their turn to .'trip for work. TVln<?atui has never been -'o •well patronised by horse-ovftiers.

ORDER OF FAVOURITISM

Undor new regulations governing the transmission of telegrams dealing with racing, the auestion haß arisen of the legality of publishing figures before tho nameß of horßes showing the order in. which they afe backed on tho totalisatar. The point, was referred to the Crown Law Office, and a ruline has heen received that the practice has to do with betting and cannot he allowed. Tho Telegraph Department announces that in view of. this opinion these figures must, in future, be omitted from the telegraphed raco reports.

• Entries for the Napier Park meeting close on Friday. General acceptances for the Auokland meeting close on Friday, when final payments for. the Great Northern Hurdles are also duo. Mr. K. W. Brown has made a present of. Daytime to Mr. F. M'Parland, and the latter is at present using tho little Hymettus gelding in his gig. Whether Daytimo will be raced again is problematical.. This wcojt is an off one for sportsmen, and there are no race meetings held in any part of the Dominion. Thin is ono of the few weeks throughout tho year that this can be €aid of. Probably the best has been seen of the Australian-bred Old Mungindi. It is nearly three years since he won the Australian Steeplechase, which was bia'last victory. The Otaki me*t?ng on Thursday and Friday of next week, is likely to be well patronised on each day. The club has: arranged' for three special trains to leava Thorndon Station on June 3, and two of them will bo nonstop ones. If the present spell of fmo weather holds the tracks at Otaki should bo in perfect order for next volt's meeting. Though, heavy rain foil .in various parts of this province last week, there was not a sfiiglo shower at Otaki. Tho successful 6iro Demosthenes, who hae been sold to a New South Wales breeder, is being shipped to Sydney by the Ulimaroa to-day. The jumper Sensitive changed hands last week for 100 guineas. IMb new owner, is ?tr. A. Whltaker, of Gi6bornc. The Halatcr mare Sweet Corn has been eold to a Gisborne breeder, and slio will go to the stud noit season. Tho Melbourne jockey G. Lambert io reported to have accepted an engagement to ride in India during the coming season. The well-known trainer of light harness horses. 11. .Tardcn, has determined to retire from tho business and go in for farming. All his horses will shortly ho submitted to auction with the exception of AuKior Dillon, who will be retained for stud purposes. Amythas lias finished his racing for tho present season, and he ir. now enjoying n rest, preparatory to being got reauy for spring engagements.
