By. Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, May 25. In the Supreme Court- to-day tho Brand Jury returned true bills in the thre" cascj submitted to them. Two men who had pleaded guilty were dealt with. Alexander Charles Mackenzie, who'had defrauded his employer, a master baker, of .£7O, received for bread delivered and whilst under remand for sentence in that case had stolen a man's Post Office bank-book and forged a withdrawal order for m, was sentenced to reformative treatment up to five years. Albert C. T. Lamb, who broke from prison at Timaru while awaiting trial on a charge of theft, of which when tried he waa found not guilty, was brought up on his plea ot guilty to prison-breaking. His counsel pointed out that as ho had been acquitted of the ckargo on which he was detained in prison, the charge of breaking did not lie. His Honour agreed o.nd ordered discontinuance of tho proceedings. Edward 1 His, a steward on tho e.s. Corinthic, charged with stealing an overcoat from the shop of J. Craitrie when the steamer was at TiniDTO, was acquitted the only evidence against him being that tho coat was fmmd in his bunk at Welling on and he denied all knowledge of it. Two other members of .the same crew, L. L. Valentine and V. L. Ellis, were charged with tho thefts of aii overcoat and a dcormat, the latter being found at the Cnstomlious-o, which was broken into he same night. The ury disagreed and. a new trial will beheld.
