WILL HE BE GOVERNOR-GENERAL OF AUSTRALIA? ,Mr. Chapman (Nat, N.S.W.) inquired in'the Commonwealth House of Representatives on May C whether there was any truth in the 'suggestion that General Sir William Birdtvood was to be appointed tho next Governor-Goneral of Australia 'IV Acting-Leodor of the Ministry (Sir Joseph Cook): I have no'information on the matter. I do not know what is to bo the future of that popular general. Mr. Riley (Can., N.S.W.) asked whether there was any foundation for tho rumour that General Birdwood's visit to Australia had been mado with <v view to his appointment as High Commissioner for Australia in London? Si." Joseph Cook: I havo no doubt that that worthy gentleman will fill many positions and play many parts in tho future. (Laughter.)
