After some discussion on the education question at the Women's National meeting, the following motion was pvoposea by Mrs:' Forde and carried urt&mmoiisly r —"That tho National Council of Women congratulates the Hon. C. J. Parr, Minister of Education, in his efforts to' bring ' about necessary" reforms in connection with.our national system of educationj but would point out that the reforms promulgated by him cannot "be effectively put into practice' unless teachers are paid salaries that are to an extent commensurate with the invaluable services they render society. Further, if any niaimprovement in regard to children 'taking a'ctviTiitage' 'of secondary education is'to take place, the economic conditions of the great mass of the people will need to-be advanced appreciably and'education'made .'free in the true sens* cf tho word, from the primary schools to tho university, as is now being done . m America,. Belgium, and other countries that are leading us in" the all-important matter of education. In''this connection we advocate for a commencement that all school books shall be supplied freo of cost, and that fees that are now •charged for entrance to examination be> abolished."
Miis. Leedham Crowe, who arrived by the lonic, is an associate of the lioyal Academy of Music, and also <ne of its examiners. Mrs. Crowe is a .composer, and her last song, of which she composed the words and the music, is dedicated to Sir Thomas Mackenzie. All the proceeds are to be devoted to the Kdith Cavell Home. Mrs. i'rtwe has come for a "trip to "New Zealand for a rest and a change, but may make her home in New Zealand'after a. tour of the Dominion, Australia, and India. .

Who was given away by n6r father, wora u dress of white orepe de chine, trimmed with pearls, and veil and wreatli of pearls. Her bouquet was of white chry-finrithomumß-'and autumn leaves; Littlo Miss Hazel Brockelbank (sister of tho bride) was the. bridesmaid, and wore a dress of white voile trimmed with lace, and a black, ei'.fc hat, lined with pink, to .•match; She carried a bouquet of autumn berries and chrysanthemums. The-ser-vice was fully choral,- the Wedding March, being pluycd by Miss Alice/.Naughton, Mr. C: R. Brunton. (brother of the bridegroom) acted as best man. A meeting of tho Household Orderly Association was held in the Pioneer. Club yesterday afternoon.
