MIRAMAR AFFAIRS
Tho Miramar Borough 1 Council mot last night, tho Mayor (Mr. S. M. Stone) presiding. With reference to a letter from the Education Board, asking tho council to reconsider its decision with regard to the rental of the Town Hall, which is being used as a temporary schoolroom, it was decided to stand by tho decision of tho council. The Miramar Sports Club wrote asking that electric light Should bo laid on to the grandstand nt the nark. It was intended by tho football authorities to make a gymnasium tliere. It was decided that tliero was no objection to o connection being laid on, but it was a . matter between the club and the City Council. A lettor was received from the Hawera Borough Council enclosing a copy of a motion ' requesting the Government to removo the duty on children's footwear, and asking tho eminoil for their support. It was pointed out that this was hardly, a matter for a borough council, but cno which concerned tho Board of Trade. _ It was, therefore, decided to take bo action. The report of tho Borough Kngineer showed that the amount paid in wages during tho month was ,£36-1 12s. Sd. At (he beginning of tho month thore was a heavy fall of rain, and part of Broadway was flooded. As a result Jl7 15s. "d. had to bo spent in wages in removing debris from sumps and filling ruts.
