FIRES IN PRIVATE HOSPITAL
NINE MYSTERIOUS OUTBREAKS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Carterton, May 24. '■Mysterious outbreaks of fire occurred at, Nurse Strang's private _hospital on Saturday night and SundayT In alarm was ifiven at 10 p.m. on Saturday, and tile brigade arrived to find a medical dressing cupboard, in which was a heap of kapoc, aflame. After danger had been averted and all in tlio house had re; tired, there was another outbreak, which, was 'Subdued without the assistance of' tlio brigade. Outbreaks occurred again on Sunday. In all nine incipient fires were extinguished. The- brigade was called down once more, when the din-ing-room curtains and blinds were destroyed. > The polico aro now making inquiries.
LOWER HUTT BUILDING BURNED. A detached buiiding, -used as a dwelling and store-room, at the rear of Mr. W. T. Cotton's residence, Pretoria Street, Lower Hutt, was totally destroyed, by fire at about 7.30 on Sunday night. The Hutt Fire Brigade was summoned, but owing to motor troubled it did not reach the scene in time to save the building, Tho origin of the fire is unknown. Tho extent of tfhe damage is estimated tit about ,£l5O.
