t Middlesex.—This steamer, which is being built and ensined by Meßsrs. Swan, Hun tcr, and Wigham Richardson, Ltd.. at their Neptune works, Newcastle-on-Tyne, for the Federal Steam Navigation Co.. Ltd.,. of London, was launched on Ivlarch 22, and ia intended for the carriage of frozen meat and general cargo, holds and 'tween decks being insulated for the purpose. The hatchways are larpe, and the holds constructed to give ample clear snacoß. sno is 480 ft, in teneth overall by 621 ft. beam, and ia constructed under tho special survey of Lloyd's' Bojister for their 100-Al class. She is designed to carry over 12,000 tons d.w. on a draught of about 29ft. A» .the boilers may be fired by means of Hther oil or coal, the bunkers are rrr.vjged to oarry either coal or oil and the double-bottom is constructed co carry either oil fuel or water- ballast. The accommodation for the officers, engineers, and crew includes a hospital and dispensary, accommodation for cadets, and ■v limited number of spare •, state-room».
